Music

Children have the opportunity to participate in extracurricular music tuition on a weekly basis. This is funded by parents, however children on FSM may have this provision subsidised by the school.

Sport

The school aims to provide our children with a range of activities to

• Promote physical activity
• Develop a healthy lifestyle
• Develop positive attitudes

Physical education is a statutory element of the curriculum and a note is needed from parents who wish their child to be excused from physical education or swimming lessons on occasional health grounds.

To encourage a healthy lifestyle and promote physical activity the children play outside every day whenever possible.

The school offers a range of after school sports’ clubs at various points during the year, for KS2 pupils.

Swimming

All pupils are taught to swim at Ystradgynlais Leisure Centre. The children look forward to their weekly lessons and all children will have the opportunity to experience swimming lessons in a specified block of time every year.

Girls must wear a full swimming costume whilst the boys must wear swimming trunks that are not long and baggy. We ask that swimming kits come in a bag that can be worn on your child’s back/shoulder.

Goggles are permitted but a consent form must be handed into the class teacher. Please ask your class teacher for a consent form.
