As a Primary school, we follow the Curriculum for Wales for 4-11 year olds. Welsh is taught as a second language in accordance with the Local Authority and National policy. Our pupils’ bilingual skills are developed through the use of “Cymraeg pob dydd” encouraging pupils to speak Welsh in their daily routines. The school currently has the Cymraeg Campus Bronze award and is working towards the Silver award.
Pupils learn about the world of work through visits to various businesses in Ystradgynlais such as The Bakery, Travel Agents, The Gorsedd and the Indian takeaway. Visitors to the school include Nurses, Dentists, Vets, Fire service and people with various other forms of occupation. The school has special assembly visits from parents who share experiences from the world of work.
The curriculum at this age is based on Active Learning and is exciting, interesting, sometimes messy and above all mentally and physically stimulating. We aim to develop the ‘whole child’, irrespective of race, colour or ability, and will offer equal opportunities for learning in a caring, stimulating and challenging environment.
